The Smoke Free Illinois Campaign consists of residents, businesses, and organizations who are dedicated to raising awareness in the community about the dangers of secondhand smoke and increasing support for a smoke-free Illinois to protect workers and patrons from the dangers of secondhand smoke.

Whereas:
- The U.S. Surgeon General's 2006 report has determined that there is no risk-free level of exposure to secondhand smoke.
- Secondhand smoke is the third leading cause of preventable death in this country, killing approximately 65,000 nonsmokers in the U.S. each year.
- Secondhand smoke is proven to aggravate asthma and increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases in children and adults.
We, the undersigned, believe that we have the right to breathe smoke-free indoor air and that to protect the health of our state, Illinois, workplaces, including restaurants and bars, must be smoke-free.
